ATLAS’ WIRBEL, a production by LOSE COMBO, is made together with Sonar Quartett and is funded by the Senate Department for Culture and Europe and the initiative neue musik berlin (inm).
In April 2021, after two postponements, LOSE COMBO will use the Reinbeckhallen as a temporary laboratory and studio and place ATLAS’ WIRBEL in an audiovisual CONTAINER. It will be reopened on the Internet and there it will remain the same: whether a carrier of the heavens, cervical vertebrae, mountains, a collection of maps representing the world or an image archive, everything that can be called Atlas can become a focal point.
In ATLAS ’WIRBEL, LOSE COMBO uses the method of “mapping” for a performative criticism of social and political processes. Surrounded by the filigree sound explorations of Sonar Quartett, two performers immerse themselves in a web of investigations, speculations, and anecdotes around the mythological figure of the Titan named Atlas. Whether recognized as the bearer of heaven’s weight, a mobile cervical vertebra or mountains connecting countries, Atlas, in a vortex of political, geological, architectural and literary references, shakes the Eurocentric worldview. In this production, the cynicism of continental-maritime isolation becomes visible and trans-Mediterranean spaces of reflection open up.
