In the workshop WHY NOT by the artist Riako Napitupulu, participants will reactivate a public space in Schöneweide to use its resources for an artistic/social project or Action. This workshop is recommended for participants with an artistic or social project already in progress or a developed idea for a project in the neighbourhood of Schöneweide.
Using Schöneweide as an example, WHY NOT opens up new ways of communicating and of support in project planning for cultural and social actors. The focus of the workshop is an active mediation of different project strategies, which focuses on direct exchange with the chosen environment.
By means of small tasks, the participants go through different process phases to work out a suitable and concrete project idea with a personal motif for a specific place. What does our project need to realise it? Strategies of site-specific art, performative exercises, conversation techniques, and exchange in the group form is the aim of this workshop.
The participants will meet the artist for the workshop in the Project Space of the Stiftung Reinbeckhallen. All artists, sociologists, educators and anyone who would like to realise an artistic or social project or a local residents’ project in the neighbourhood of Schöneweide are cordially invited. No prior knowledge or materials are needed. The workshop is especially suitable for adults and can be completed in German and English.

Riako Napitupulu was born in 1983 in Wuppertal. She is a multidisciplinary artist, a performer, butoh and impro- dancer, painter, art therapist, art mediator and social worker, who is currently living and working in Berlin. Growing up between German grey skyscrapers and an Indonesian-Japanese elite family, the artist addresses interpersonal relationships, exploring identity between cultures, sexuality and social inequality, as well as her intersectional experiences as a young migrant single mother. Her particular passion for participatory projects and community projects in public spaces, with a wide range of groups, is reflected in her local art projects as a performer and art mediator in Berlin Biennale 10&11, 48 Stunden Neukölln, HAU, Ballhaus Ost etc. She is a co-founder of the fluid multimedia collective Polysense Art and since 2019 performer in the performance-music project Callas & Dollars. Riako Napitupulu especially likes white chocolate with almonds.
